EMR Online Courses:
ElectroMagnetic Radiation: IBE 204.3
Electromagnetic emissions (also known as Electromagnetic Radiation(EMR) or Electrosmog) are present inside all homes and offices. In this course you will learn techniques for identifying sources and measuring exposure to AC Electric Fields, AC Magnetic Fields, Radio Frequency Radiation, Radioactivity, Radon, and Terrestrial Radiation. Common examples of manmade Electromagnetic Radiation in or near the average home are: Power lines, cellular phones, Wi-Fi, microwave ovens cordless phones, etc. These can potentially interfere with and disrupt our inner biological processes. This comprehensive course covers testing protocols, health effects, and remediation of Electromagnetic emissions.

EMR Interactive Seminars:
Electromagnetics: IBE 212
This 5 day interactive seminar explores how to assess Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) in the Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) range and the Radio Frequency (RF) range. Both residential and commercial locations are studied and how to implement respective solution strategies. This seminar course provides hands-on lab experiences using the most sensitive testing equipment on the market today.

EMR Seminar Synopsis:
This seminar provides techniques for identification, detection and mitigation of electromagnetic radiation (EMR); the theory of EMR is demonstrated with practical examples and case studies based on actual home inspections. Particular emphasis is placed on the bedroom as well as on EMR that may enter the house or commercial building via the public water supply system. The proper instruments used in the detection procedure are demonstrated, abatement techniques are explained, and one can also learn how to discuss these techniques with clients, electricians and plumbers. This seminar includes lectures, hands-on labs for instrumentation usage, demonstrations and interactive discussions.

    Topics include:
  • Fundamental definitions of energy and how electricity is a special class of energy
  • Concepts of AC electric and AC magnetic fields
  • EMF low and high frequency ranges including radio frequency and cellular phone
  • Definition of AC electric and magnetic fields and DC electric and magnetic fields
  • Ionizing radiation
  • Static electric and magnetic fields
Prerequisite Courses:
IBE 204.3 ElectroMagnetic Radiation - Time requirement: Five days (successful completion of a proctored written exam is required)

Electromagnetics: IBE 312
This advanced seminar is focused on labs and receiving practical experience to allow you to enhance your skill set for best measurement practices, remediation planning and costing. Emerging issues in the ever changing wireless communication landscape will be discussed.

EMR Seminar Synopsis:
You will receive a copy of the new IBE Standard Measurement of Non-ionizing Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) in Low-Rise Residential Buildings. The measurement practices covered in this standard will be used throughout the four days. The seminar will cover the proper identification and mitigation of man-made electromagnetic energies to include power system ELF magnetic and electric fields, power system VLF Fields and wireless radio frequency radiations emitted by cell phones, cordless phones, WiFi and other wireless devices.

Daily classroom experiences will feature comprehensive hands-on learning with the latest lab equipment.

    Learning Objectives:
  • Understand complexities of measuring EMR in low rise buildings including power system ELF magnetic and electric fields, Power system VLF electric fields and radio frequency radiation.
  • Understand/use specific meters to measure specific EMRs; learn how meters can be used to measure and map EMR in buildings; learn about data logging and its uses in the assessment.
  • Study and understand the IBE EMR Measurement Protocol for Low Rise Buildings.
  • Learn about various methods of shielding /blocking EMR and the application criteria for each type of shielding.
  • Learn how to construct and cost a remediation plan for each of these energies.
Prerequisite Courses:
IBE 204.3 ElectroMagnetic Radiation - Time requirement: Five days (successful completion of a proctored written exam is required)
IBE 212 Electromagnetic Radiation Seminar - 5 Day Seminar
